Shaping career of a child is important. Many actors play a warm contribution in order to have a successful career of an aspirant. World is changing very fast; hence, role of parents and teachers is crucial to transverse academic journey into a desired career. Therefore, keeping a track of environmental dynamic is important for teachers to match the expectations and requirements that shape up the future of upcoming generations. Often, school education and higher education act like two different phases in academic journey of a student. However, it is important to share experiences, culture, expectations, challenges and solutions to gain the best out of efforts invested by the teachers on both the phases. Generation – Z students are unique in their learning style. Also, the kind of competencies they would need keeping future work scenarios need to be inculcated right from the beginning.
College of Healthcare Management & Economics, Gulf Medical University, Ajman Successfully Hosted Teaching Improvement Program on 17 August 2021. 25+ teachers from schools with different curriculums across United Arab Emirates (UAE) attended this development program. An important dialogue on ‘Teaching-learning’ importance and process was discussed to open the floor. First Dr. Pramod Mahajan shared his experience on what is expected from a teacher and how we can foster learning amongst Gen – G students. He opined that along with Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ), it is important to have Social Quotient (SQ) and Adversity Quotient (AQ). Dr. Sudhir Rana discussed the challenges occurred on dealing with Gen – Z students by implementing the design thinking approach. Dr. Moon Moon Haque emphasized on how to effectively use short attention span of Generation – Z students. Finally, Prof. Manda Venkatramana summed up the discussion by sharing role of both school and university teachers in shaping career of a student. And advised that if we are able to identify the challenges it much earlier to explore the solutions.
The event was filled with enthusiasm and given directions to the participants on how to deal with Generation – Z students to make them effective learners and foster into versatile personalities. The event was well appreciated by the participants and they requested for more such workshops.
