Breast Cancer Awareness

October 25, 2023, fourth-year students from the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management and Economics (BSc. HME) program at Gulf Medical University (GMU) organized an event to raise awareness for a significant cause – Breast Cancer Awareness 2023, themed ‘Keeping Her in Picture.’ Aligned with the World Health Organization, the students acknowledged global achievements in reducing breast cancer mortality, attributing the annual reductions of 2-4% to essential strategies. The objective of the event was to encourage initiative-taking efforts for breast cancer care and emphasize the health and healthcare management economic practices related to the region.

The event was organized by Dr. Lubna M. Abdel Jawad of CoHME and Dr. Liju Susan Mathew from the College of Medicine. The students organized the event to raise awareness about breast cancer, featuring poster highlights and engaging activities.

Dr. Moon Moon Haque, Dean of CoHME, stated, “Students engaging in such activities aligned with the course and global events emphasize real-world application and prepare students for competent practice in planning, execution, and administration of quality health services, as well as research in their future roles as health economic practitioners.”

As the ongoing trend of scrutinizing life through an economic lens persists, students recognize the imperative “need to focus” on enhancing staff communication, training, and compliance within the realm of healthcare. This dedicated focus aims to foster a secure environment for all stakeholders. With a resolute commitment, the students at College of Health Care Management and Economic pledged their support to raising awareness and diligently implementing the practice protocols delineated in the 2040 Global Breast Cancer Initiative Framework.
