In continuation to the Faculty Development Program Series organized by the College of Dentistry, GMU Prof. Sura Ali Fuoad delivered an informative presentation on ‘Teaching in a Simulated Environment’ on the 25th of October 2023.
Prof. Sura explained that teaching in a simulated environment involves replicating a clinical or dental practice setting with high-fidelity manikins and virtual simulators that closely mimics real dental scenarios, providing students with a safe and controlled learning experience. She highlighted that teaching in simulated environment allows students to start with basic procedures and gradually advance to complex treatments, ensuring a seamless transition to clinical practice. She emphasized that this teaching strategy offers various advantages to the students such as, realistic experience, repetitive practice, focused learning, individualized feedback and development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The interactive session came to a close with a key takeaway: teaching in a simulated environment embodies a comprehensive and student-centered approach, empowering educators to create a rewarding and constructive learning journey for dental students.
