Health Professions Education Journal Club by Dr. Arina Ziganshina ‘From Traditional to Programmatic Assessment in Three (Not So) Easy Steps’

In a recent Health Professions Education Journal Club, Dr. Arina Ziganshina, Assistant Professor of Clinical Department, Dubai Medical College for Girls, UAE discussed an article titled “From Traditional to Programmatic Assessment in Three (Not So) Easy Steps.” on the 15th of February 2024. The session was facilitated by Prof. Walid Elsayed, Associate Dean of Academics, College of Dentistry, GMU.

The discussions revolved around the concept of programmatic assessment, which offers a holistic approach to evaluating learners’ progress over time through multiple data points and diverse assessment tools. Dr.Ziganshina also highlighted that at a practical level, implementation of programmatic assessment does bring several challenges.

The session concluded with a message that by integrating various assessment activities seamlessly into the curriculum, educators can gain a comprehensive understanding of students’ strengths, weaknesses, and overall competency attainment.
