GMU dental interns and students presented case reports and research posters aimed at dental diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient care at the UAE International Dental Conference and Arab Dental Exhibition (AEEDC) on the 6th and 7th of February 2024.
The first poster titled ‘Inverted Maxillary Third Molar Impaction: Exploring Capabilities of AI versus HI Expertise in Diagnosis and Treatment Planning’ was presented by dental interns; Marwah Salah, & Noor Alhussein, and supervised by Dr. Sabrin Azim, Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dr. Mohammed Shoaib, Lecturer & Specialist A, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, CoD, GMU. This innovative exploration of leveraging AI in dental diagnostics promises enhancing efficiency in patient care.

The second poster titled ‘Reimagining Dental Care: A Student Perspective on Complex Cases and Patient-Centric Solution’ was presented by Sara Alhalyan and Akram Alrasasy, 5th year dental students, CoD under the guidance of a multidisciplinary team of faculty; Dr. Dusan Surdilovic, Chairperson, Department of Preventive Dental Sciences, Dr. Sabrin Azim, Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Mohammed Shoaib, Lecturer & Specialist A, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Sesha Reddy, Lecturer and Specialist in Periodontics, and Dr. Rana El-daour, Specialist in Restorative Dentistry, CoD, GMU. Their study highlighted the importance of personalized treatment strategies tailored to individual patient needs.
Lastly, the third poster titled ‘Oral Aphthous Ulcers: A Case Report’ was also presented by Sara Alhalyan, 5th year dental student, CoD under the guidance of Prof. Sura Ali Fuoad, Head, Department of Diagnostic and Surgical Dental Sciences. The case report highlighted the importance of a thorough history, clinical examination, an accurate diagnosis, and prompt initiation of appropriate treatment can lead to complete recovery of aphthous ulcers.
