Dr. Anne Younan Kamel, Associate Program Director of the Dental Internship Program, CoD, GMU delivered a presentation titled ‘Medication Safety in Dental Practice’ at the recent RAKCODS Conference on Patient Safety on the 2nd of March 2024.
Dr. Anne highlighted the critical importance of ensuring medication safety in dentistry. She specified common challenges such as look-alike sound-alike drugs, illegible prescriptions, and incomplete patient information. She emphasized the need for precision in medication prescriptions to uphold optimal patient care standards.
To tackle medication safety challenges, Dr. Anne proposed strategic interventions such as electronic prescribing systems, double-checking procedures, and antibiotic stewardship programs. She stressed on the necessity of continuous education and training for dental professionals to enhance awareness and competence in medication safety.
