The College of Dentistry, GMU in collaboration with the Curaden Academy held an iTOP (Individually Trained Oral Prophylaxis) introductory course for dental interns on the 13th of June 2023. The one-day program involved lectures by Dr. Franka Baranovic Huber, Dentist and iTOP Lecturer, Switzerland, and hands-on practical sessions by iTOP instructors; Dr. Jovita D’Souza, Specialist and Lecturer of Periodontology, COD, GMU, and Ms.Yasmeen Arafsha, Ms.Shaymaa Alreefy, and Ms. Angela Couto, Dental Hygienist’s, Curaden Academy.
The course addressed the current shortcomings in dental prophylaxis and prophylactic education, emphasizing the importance of proper techniques and the use of appropriate oral hygiene tools. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the research-based background and practical aspects of biofilm control through the Touch-to-Teach (T2T) method.
Overall, the iTOP introductory course contributed to the professional development of dental interns.
