On Wednesday, 22nd November 2023, a training program focused on Medical Coding – a vital skill in the healthcare industry was conducted at Thumbay University Hospital for the fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management and Economics (BSc.HME), GMU students.

This comprehensive training not only equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills but also provides an opportunity for hands-on experience through internships with the Insurance Department at Thumbay University Hospital. Successful completion of the course opens doors for students to become Certified Professional Coders, aligning with the course’s learning outcomes tailored for the evolving medical industry.

Led by a team of esteemed professionals including Dr. Farheen Tariq, Praveen Fernandes, Reshma Janardhanan, Aframol Hilal, Naseeba Shihabudheen, Fasira Ismail, Shailaja Palli, and Athira Anil, the training sessions are spearheaded by the course leader, Dr. Najeb Masoud.

During the course, students delve into coding scenarios, honing their skills in the proper application of CPT procedure codes, HCPCS Level II supply codes, and ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes. These coding elements are crucial for medical providers in accurately submitting claims to payers, making this training an essential step towards meeting the high demands of the Medical Coding profession.
