Dr. Nesma Shemais

Dr. Nesma Shemais is an Assistant Professor of Periodontology at the College of Dentistry, GMU. Dr. Shemais graduated from Cairo University in 2010, after graduation she joined the residency program at the Periodontics Department in Cairo University from 2012 till 2015.  Following which Dr. Shemais attained her Master’s Degree in 2018 and Ph.D. in 2021 from Cairo University, Egypt. She further took the Implant specialty program from 2019 till 2021, in International Dental Continuing Education with Prof. Ahmed Aboul Fettouh.

Prior to joining GMU, Dr. Shemais was an assistant lecturer from 2018 to 2021, and lecturer from 2021 till 2025 in the Periodontology Department at Cairo University. Dr. Shemais was the course director for the central research course for postgraduate students, and clinical supervisor in the postgraduate clinics in the Periodontology and Implantology departments, performing different basic and advanced Implant surgeries and various surgical Periodontal therapies. Moreover, she supervised numerous thesis projects for master’s and Ph.D students in various fields. She also worked as a surgical supervisor and member of the research team in IDCE.

Dr. Shemais organized several workshops. She is convinced that scientific research is the cornerstone of academic advancement. This belief fuels her commitment to performing innovative studies. She has a number of papers in prominent peer-reviewed Q1 journals and participates as an international speaker in International Conferences and with posters as IADR and Europerio. In addition, she reviews articles for a number of Web of Science-indexed international journals. At the clinical level, before coming to the UAE, Dr. Shemais has been working as Consultant in Periodontology and Implantology at AXA OneHealth Clinics and freelancer in several other clinics for the past 5 years.
