GMU PharmD-MBBS Interprofessional Education in Medication Management

From February 27, 2021, GMU Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine joined hands in experiential education regarding Medication Management in Thumbay University Hospital. Healthcare Management rotation in the fourth year of MBBS and Hospital Pharmacy rotation in the fifth year of PharmD have some similar components on which PharmD and MBBS students learn together. In this interprofessional education task, PharmD and MBBS students tour through the Pharmacy, wards, ICU and OT complex areas to share knowledge on how medications are managed with a focus on product, personnel, and process management. Students reflect on this task and identify areas of improvement. Dr. Dixon Thomas of the College of Pharmacy and Dr. Pankaj Lamba of the College of Medicine organized this interprofessional education exercise and the students were evaluated based on their collaboration and interprofessional communication.
