An orientation program for year 1 BDS students was conducted on the 19th of September, 2021 by the College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University. The students were welcomed and addressed by the respected Dean, College of Dentistry, Prof. Hesham Marei on the challenges of learning during the new normal and assurance in providing a seamless transition of education. Dr. Walid Elsayed, Associate Dean Academics, briefed the students on learning and teaching modalities such as the flipped classroom, team based learning and the importance of interprofessional education. The students were introduced to the student happiness center and the mentorship program by Dr. Heba Mohamed Abdelall, Director, Mentorship and Academic Advising Program. Dr. Sura Ali, Associate Professor of Oral Medicine instructed students on the Do’s and Don’t and provided a tour of the university facilities.
Ms. Burcu, Associate Director, Department of Students Affairs provided an overview on the various student activities. Mr. Suraj Sebastian, E-learning manager and IT lecturer explained the e-learning platform, Moodle. Mr. Daies Idiculla, Librarian, GMU oriented students to their access to the various e-books and e-journal resources.
