The College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University (GMU) hosted an orientation program for Year 1 MDS Endodontics, MDS Periodontics, Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics Residency, Dental Internship, and Diploma of Dental Assistant Program students on the 28th of August 2025.
The event opened with a welcome address by respected Prof. Hesham Marei, Vice Chancellor Academics and Dean, CoD emphasizing the importance of academic excellence, professional ethics, and lifelong learning in shaping future dental professionals. Prof. Walid Elsayed, Associate Dean, COD, emphasized and highlighted the role of the academic continuum in shaping competent healthcare professionals. Dr. Abdulsalam Mujammaee, Designated Institutional Official, Thumbay University Hospital Complex L.L.C, encouraged the new master’s students to embrace dedication, innovation, and collaboration as they step into this advanced phase of their education.
Dr. Danvanthi Bangeera, Medical Director, Thumbay Dental Hospital, provided essential insights into clinical protocols and MRD data acquisition, while Dr. Fiaz Ahamed, Head of Infection Control, briefed students on key infection control measures. Mr. Sunil KA, Head of the Medical Records Department, covered patient information protocols. Following which Ms. Lisa Kaminzada, Executive, Student Affairs Department further familiarized students with the vibrant opportunities on campus, including student clubs, student-led events, the wellbeing center, and a dedicated sit-out zone for food enthusiasts
Furthermore, Dr. Bassem Eid, Program Director of MDS Endodontics, Dr. Bhavna Jha Kukhreja, Program Director of MDS Periodontics, Dr.Ayman Khalifa, Program Director of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics Residency, Dr.Jovita D’Souza, Program Director of Dental Internship, and Dr.Riham Hadjhamou, Program Director of the Diploma for Dental Assistant program introduced the students to the program’s academic and clinical training requirements, including workplace-based assessments.
The program concluded with an informative tour of the university and the postgraduate dental clinic at Thumbay University Hospital, ensuring that students felt well-prepared to embark on their academic journey.
