The Student Happiness Center at the College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University (GMU), is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for Students of Determination. The center works to ensure that students with various physical, sensory, cognitive, or emotional disabilities receive the necessary support to thrive academically and socially.
Who Are Students of Determination?
These students experience learning barriers such as cognitive or learning issues, communication or interaction difficulties, social or mental health challenges, and physical or sensory impairments. GMU is committed to offering equitable support to meet their unique needs.
Overview
In line with GMU’s policies and UAE Federal Law No. (29) of 2006, the center ensures equal access to educational resources and services tailored to each student, fostering a positive academic experience.
Services Provided
- Personalized Support: A dedicated coordinator offers tailored adjustments to the learning environment, programs, and assessments.
- Accessible Facilities: Campus facilities, including ramps, elevators, and assistive technologies, support mobility and access.
- Mentorship and Counseling: Academic and personal guidance, counseling services, and psychiatric consultations are available to students.
- Curricular and Assessment Modifications: Adjustments in exam timings, deadlines, and specialized learning resources are provided as needed.
- Health and Well-being: The center fosters a safe, inclusive environment and access to support groups. Students also receive special discounts at GMU-affiliated services.
