The Student Happiness Center of the College of Dentistry at Gulf Medical University organized a guest lecture on ‘Entrepreneurial Aspects of Dentistry’ for dental students, interns, and postgraduates on the 13th of December 2023. Renowned private dental practitioners Dr. Salahudeen Aboobacker, Founder and Medical Director of Pearl Dental Clinic, Dubai, and Dr. Alok Mehta, Periodontologist and Implantologist, Al Lulu Medical Center, Sharjah, and Panacea Medical and Wellness Center in Dubai were invited to share their experience and shed light on the real-world challenges of dental practice.
Dr. Aboobacker shared experiences from his successful career, offering students a glimpse into the details of managing a dental clinic in a competitive market like Dubai. He also highlighted the significance of competencies such as professionalism, effective communication, and patient-centered care for being hired by private dental clinics.
Dr. Mehta discussed the entrepreneurial side of dentistry, stressing the need for dental practitioners to view their profession through a business lens. He also elaborated on the practicalities of running a dental practice.
The speakers engaged in a lively Q&A session, responding to students’ queries. They emphasized that dentistry is a healthcare profession and a thriving business.
