An orientation program for year 1 BDS students was conducted on the 1st of September 2023 by the College of Dentistry (CoD), GMU. Students and parents received a warm welcome and a thoughtful address from Prof. Hesham Marei, Dean, CoD, GMU. Students were briefed by Dr. Walid Elsayed, Associate Dean for Academics and Research, on the importance of interprofessional education and the varied aspects of academic continuum. They were familiarized to the Student Happiness Center (SHC), mentorship program, and peer tutoring program by Prof. Sura Ali Fuoad, Head Department of Diagnostic and Surgical Dental Sciences. Furthermore, the students were informed of the completion of the medical fitness protocol by Ms. Sherly Ajay, Director of Admissions and were introduced to the GMU rules and regulations by Dr. Pooja Adtani, Year 1 coordinator.
Mr. Suraj Sebastian, E-learning and IT manager explained the e-learning platform, Moodle and Folio 360. Mr. Daies Idiculla, Librarian, oriented students about clinical key and portals such as Lecturio to access their e-books and e-journal resources.
The orientation program was facilitated by Dr. Jovita D’souza and concluded by inviting parents and students for a tour of the university and hospital facilities.
