An Overview of The City of Ajman
The Emirate of Ajman is centrally located on the western coast of the United Arab Emirates, a short distance from Dubai representing the northern flank of the Dubai- Sharjah – Ajman metropolitan area.
Under the able leadership and guidance of H. H. Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al-Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council U.A.E. and Ruler of Ajman, the emirate has been transformed with modern facilities and amenities. The Emirate is also well connected with the rest of the U.A.E. by a network of modern highways and roads. Yet the traditional way of life has been preserved making the modern living environment a pleasant blend of the old with the new and the simple with the sophisticated.
Industrial development has touched this small but important Emirate to its core. Higher education has thrived in Ajman since the establishment of 2 major universities of higher education. The beautiful beaches of Ajman and the clean and less commercialized seashores offer excellent facilities for swimmers and beach lovers. Some of the areas such as Masfoot and Manama are rich in agriculture and farming. Mountains in all directions that provide a scenic backdrop to this region surround Masfoot. The people of the United Arab Emirates are proud of their culture, heritage and history that form the foundation of the country’s present prosperity.
The fort in Ajman built way back in the 18th century is a symbol that reflects this heritage. Finally, living in a marine environment, dhow building using traditional tools and manual skills and fishing continue to thrive as important activities in this Emirate.
