The College of Health Sciences (CoHS), Gulf Medical University, proudly celebrated World Physiotherapy Day on 16th September 2025 with great enthusiasm, participation, and creativity from students, faculty, and staff. The event highlighted the theme “Healthy Aging” as declared by World Physiotherapy for this year, emphasizing the importance of physiotherapy in maintaining strength, mobility, and quality of life across all ages.

Organized by the 4th-year Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) students, with active support from volunteers across all physiotherapy batches, the event took place at the GMU main foyer. Students set up multiple interactive stations that combined education, awareness, and engagement:
- Physical Capacity Assessment Station – Attendees were assessed for sarcopenia under the supervision of faculty.
- Awareness Station – Informative pamphlets were distributed focusing on cardiac health, balance, control, and coordination.
- Challenging Tasks – Each station included age-appropriate physical and mental challenges, motivating participants to test their strength and abilities. Winners who successfully completed the tasks were rewarded with gifts by the students.

The program effectively blended fun and learning, showcasing the collaborative spirit of GMU physiotherapy students and their growing impact on healthcare awareness. It also served as a proud testament to the unity and dedication within the College of Health Sciences.

The event was graced not only by the Dean, Associate Deans, Program Directors, and faculty members of the Department of Physiotherapy but also by the faculty of other programs of College of Health Sciences, who appreciated the initiative. Special recognition was given to Ms. Bushra Hussain Mohammad Ali Alshammar (2022PT07) and Mohammed Sherif Salah Moustafa Mounib Badr (2022PT38) from the BPT 2024 batch for their excellent coordination of the event.

Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, applauded the efforts of the students and faculty, stating, “World Physiotherapy Day is not just a celebration, but a reminder of the vital contribution physiotherapists make to the health and recovery of individuals. I am truly proud of our students for their dedication, innovation, and active role in spreading awareness. Their enthusiasm reflects the future of healthcare leadership and service.”

GMU would like to thank and acknowledge the support and guidance extended by Dr. Naima Saleh, President, Emirates Physiotherapy Society.
The celebration came to a successful close, reinforcing the College’s commitment to fostering professional excellence, innovation, and community engagement in physiotherapy.
