GMU College of Health Sciences hosts orientation for 2025 MSc. Medical Laboratory Science Cohort

The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the College of Health Sciences (CoHS), Gulf Medical University (GMU), officially welcomed the 2025 cohort of the Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences (MSc. MLS) program through a comprehensive orientation held on August 30, 2025.

The program began with a welcome address by Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean of CoHS, who emphasized GMU’s commitment to cultivating excellence in medical education, research, and clinical practice. He stated, “It gives me immense pride to welcome this new cohort of medical laboratory students. Our university is committed to equipping you with cutting-edge knowledge, practical skills, and values that will shape you into leaders in healthcare.”

The orientation continued with Dr. Noha Kamal, Program Director of MSc. MLS, who presented an overview of the academic calendar, program structure, institutional policies, and ethical practices in medical sciences. Dr. Noha also provided insights into Semester 1 courses, the weekly schedule, and the assessment framework, ensuring students are well-prepared for their studies.

Technical training followed, with Mr. Suraj Sebastian introducing students to GMU’s Learning Management System and Folio 360 platform, essential tools for tracking academic performance and e-portfolios.

Students also received further briefings:

  • Registrar’s Address by Mr. Aslam Kutty, outlining university processes and enrollment support.
  • Library Orientation by Dr. Ramprasad M, showcasing GMU’s vast digital and physical knowledge resources.
  • Student Affairs Briefing by Ms. Liza Kaminzada, highlighting wellness initiatives, mentorship programs, and opportunities for student engagement.

With access to Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine (TRIPM) and Thumbay Labs, Ajman, a College of American Pathologists (CAP)-accredited diagnostic and reference lab, the students are poised to gain invaluable experience in advanced laboratory techniques and medical research.
