Department of Anesthesia, College of Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, UAE, proudly participated in an international academic exchange at Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS), Bengaluru, India, during the conference titled “Futuristic Opportunities in Basic & Advanced Technology in Surgery,” held on May 10, 2025. The event was organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Life and Allied Health Sciences (FLAHS) and focused on innovations and emerging career paths in Anesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology (AOTT).

Representing GMU, Ms. Ashli Shaji, Preceptor from the Department of Anesthesia, was invited as a guest speaker and resource person. She delivered a well-received session titled “Career Opportunities in Anesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology (AOTT),” aimed at guiding students and early-career professionals in understanding the broad spectrum of roles, competencies, and global opportunities in the AOTT field.
In her session, Ms. Ashli provided a detailed overview of career pathways for graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in AOTT. Drawing from her academic and clinical experience at Gulf Medical University, she elaborated on strategies for pursuing international careers, licensure processes, certifications, skill development, professional networking, and cultural adaptability in diverse healthcare environments.
A key highlight of the session was an interactive question-and-answer segment, where attendees engaged in thoughtful discussions around career planning, international regulations, licensure challenges, and the evolving responsibilities of AOTT professionals in high-pressure surgical and perioperative care settings.
The conference also shed light on the transformative impact of technological advancements in anesthesia and surgical practices, emphasizing the increasing demand for qualified AOTT professionals. Industry forecasts highlighted during the event projected a 28% annual growth rate in India’s medical device sector by 2025, reflecting similar global trends.
In recognition of her academic contribution, Ms. Ashli Shaji was awarded a Certificate of Honor from Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS) presented by Dr. Tushar Shaw, Head of Department, and Dr. Soma Chaki, Dean of FLAHS at RUAS.
