Dr. Jameel Rizwana Hussaindeen, Associate Professor and Program Director, Department of Optometry & Vision Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University was invited as a speaker at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s (CCAD) Myopia Update 2025 on 11th May, 2025.

Dr. Rizwana delivered an insightful session titled “IMI Insights: The Overlooked Link Between Binocular Vision and Myopia Progression.” Drawing on findings from the International Myopia Institute (IMI) report, she highlighted the critical yet often overlooked role of binocular vision anomalies – such as accommodative lag and near esophoria – in influencing myopia progression. Her presentation underscored the importance of incorporating binocular vision assessment as a core component of a comprehensive, evidence-based myopia management strategy.
The session featured real-world clinical case discussions and a practical decision-making framework that aligned binocular vision profiles with targeted optical interventions. These practical insights provided significant takeaways for optometrists and eye care professionals seeking to elevate their myopia care approach.

“Dr. Rizwana’s participation in this international platform is a testament to the academic and clinical leadership that Gulf Medical University encourages. Her contribution not only advances global dialogue in myopia management but also reflects the innovative spirit of our faculty in bridging evidence with practice.” – Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean, College of Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University.
