Department of Physiotherapy, College of Health Sciences (CoHS), GMU Welcomes 2025 MPT Cohort

Department of Physiotherapy, College of Health Sciences (CoHS), Gulf Medical University (GMU), inaugurated the 2025 Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) cohort with a comprehensive orientation session on August 30, 2025.

The event began with an inspirational welcome by Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean of CoHS, who encouraged students to embrace GMU’s culture of innovation and evidence-based learning. “Our goal is to prepare physiotherapy leaders who combine advanced clinical expertise with compassion and innovation. This is the first step toward that journey,” he remarked.

BSc. Anesthesia Technology Cohort

Dr. Ramprasad M, Chair of the Department of Physiotherapy, highlighted the academic roadmap, ethical responsibilities, and professional expectations for physiotherapy practitioners.

MSC. Medical Ultrasound Cohort

Dr. Watson Arulsingh, Program Director of MPT, walked students through Semester 1’s curriculum, assessment structure, and mentorship pathways, setting the tone for their academic experience.

To ensure students are equipped with essential tools and support, the orientation also featured:

  • A Registrar’s briefing by Mr. Aslam Kutty, introducing enrollment services and administrative procedures.
  • A library session by Dr. Ramprasad M., guiding students through GMU’s cutting-edge research databases and study resources.
  • A Student Affairs presentation by Ms. Liza Kaminzada, spotlighting wellness initiatives, student engagement activities, and support networks.
  • A technology workshop by Mr. Suraj Sebastian, demonstrating the Learning Management System (LMS) and Folio 360 e-portfolio platform.

The program concluded with refreshments and networking. This orientation set the stage for an exciting academic journey, reaffirming GMU’s commitment to producing globally competent physiotherapy professionals.
