The Department of Optometry, CoHS at Gulf Medical University was proud to participate in the Advancing Myopia Care Seminar, hosted by the Emirates Society of Ophthalmology (ESO) on April 12, 2025, at Park Hyatt Dubai. The event brought together regional and international experts to explore innovations in myopia management.

Bridging Research and Clinical Care
The seminar, sponsored by EssilorLuxottica and accredited with 2 CME hours by the Dubai Health Authority, focused on bridging research and clinical care across the Eastern Mediterranean region. The program featured sessions on myopia epidemiology, lifestyle influences, retinal complications, and evolving optical strategies.
Expert Insights
Notable speakers included Dr. Nicola Ghazi, Dr. Ashwaq Bin Amro, Dr. Imran Jawaid, and Dr. Carla Lança, among others. Dr. Rizwana (Program Director & Associate Professor from the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences), CoHS, GMU delivered a session titled “The Overlooked Link: Binocular Vision in the Era of Modern Myopia Control.” Her talk emphasized how binocular vision anomalies frequently co-exist with progressive myopia in children and introduced a 4P model – Profiling, Parameters, Personalization, and Progress Tracking for individualized myopia control strategies that integrate optical solutions and vision therapy.
The event also included a segment on Stellest lenses, highlighting clinical insights and dispensing strategies.
