Professor Hala Zreiqat, University of Sydney was hosted by the Medical Imaging Program at Gulf Medical University

Professor Hala Zreiqat was hosted by the Medical Imaging Sciences Department, CoHS at Gulf Medical University on 17.03.2023. Prof Hala presented her lab’s strategies in three areas: 1) developing a platform of patented engineered nanostructured, 3D-printed biomaterials for personalized, cell-free treatment to promote bone healing in challenging load-bearing situations; 2) replacing direct stem cell transplantation for bone repair and regeneration; and 3) using an anti-senescence biomaterial approach to enhance regeneration of aged bone. These technologies hold promise for skeletal tissue regeneration in various clinical applications.

Prof Hala Zreiqat is the Payne-Scott Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Sydney. Her lab focuses on engineering functional synthetic biomaterials for regenerative medicine using cutting-edge materials, biological and nano techniques, and novel 3D-printing technologies. She previously served as the Director of the Australian Research Council Training Centre for Innovative BioEngineering (2017-2022) and as a National Health and Medical Research Council Senior Research Fellow (2006-2020). Zreiqat currently serves as the Chair of the Council for Australian-Arab Relations (CAAR) (2020-2023), as well as an Associate of the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University and an Honorary Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Prof. Zreiqat has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications with over 10,000 citations.

Praveen, Dean, CoHS highlighted the activities initiated by the College of Health Sciences to connect faculty with world-class researchers and open doors for students to pursue graduate studies.
