The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the College of Health Sciences (CoHS), GMU, welcomed the 2024 cohort of Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (MSc. MLS) students through a formal orientation program on September 14th, 2024. The event aimed to introduce the students to the program and provide key information about their academic journey ahead.

Orientation began with a warm welcome from Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean, CoHS, who expressed pride in the Master of Medical Laboratory Sciences program, stating, “I extend a warm welcome to all the new students joining our prestigious Master of Medical Laboratory Sciences program, and I am proud to be a part of an institution that is committed to excellence in education, research, and healthcare.”
Following the Dean’s address, Dr. Ahmed Luay, Chair of the Medical Laboratory Science Department, spoke about the significant role that medical laboratory professionals play in shaping the future of healthcare. He remarked, “Our department is at the forefront of scientific advancements and laboratory practices.”
Dr. Noha Kamal, the MSc. MLS Program Director, provided an overview of the program including detailed information on the learning outcomes, graduation requirements, and available research facilities. She elaborated on the program vision and mission, explained the study plan, and detailed the teaching and assessment methods.

Additionally, university staff presented information on the various resources and services available to students, including learning tools, IT support. The Students’ Happiness Centre including the mentorship program, designed to support students throughout their studies, was also explained in detail.
The Orientation session was concluded with a tour of GMU’s state-of-the-art facilities, Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine (TRIPM) and Thumbay labs, Ajman- diagnostic and reference lab accredited by College of American Pathologists (CAP).
