GMU’s Physiotherapy students provide first aid services at Basant Event, kite festival as a part of Community reach-out activity

Physiotherapy students of BPT program, CoHS, GMU provided essential physiotherapy, first aid, and emergency services at the Basant event, a vibrant kite flying on 3rd and 4th of February 2024 at Sports Cricket Village, Al Dhaid in Sharjah.

The event, which celebrates the onset of spring, featured a rich tapestry of cultural activities including kite flying, musical performances by prominent artists, and a communal gathering of Pakistani expats and other communities.

This service was provided as a part of community reach-out activity for the students and highlights GMU’s commitment to community service and healthcare promotion.

Mr. Fadl Rasheed, Ms. Muhammad Abdullah, Ms. Mehek Gulati and Ms. Shehzeen Shahin who are in final year of the BPT program provided the services under the supervision of Dr. Waqar Naqvi and Dr. Watson.

The team was instrumental in offering on-site medical support, managing minor injuries, and ensuring the health and safety of the participants throughout the event. Their presence added a layer of security and comfort for the attendees, knowing professional healthcare services were readily available.

The contribution of services in the Basant event underscores the institution’s dedication to extending healthcare beyond the confines of the hospital and into community gatherings. The team’s expertise not only helped in addressing immediate healthcare needs but also showcased the importance of physiotherapy and emergency care in public events. The organizers and participants greatly appreciated GMU’s contribution, which was pivotal in fostering a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone involved.

Dr. Ramprasad.M, Chairperson, Department of Physiotherapy, emphasized the micro learning happens at community level and provide opportunities students to retrospect their skills and competencies.
