Physiotherapy students and faculty of College of Health Sciences, GMU participated as volunteers and Clinical Director in the Health Events conducted by Special Olympics UAE on 19th March 2023 at City University, Ajman.
Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for people with intellectual abilities that organized free screening for people of determination.

Students and faculty were trained to screen the athletes on their Aerobic Capacity, Balance, Endurance, Flexibility and Range of motion assessment and strengthening and educating athletes with intellectual abilities for more than 75 people of determination.
Physiotherapy faculty namely Dr. Meruna Bose and Dr. Waqar Naqvi participated and supported the event.

“The event was interactive with a fun, welcoming environment with a focus on removing the anxiety in people with intellectual disabilities often experienced when faced with a visit to a medical professional. The impact of Healthy Athletes on the health and wellness of Special Olympics athletes around the world is significant!” commented one of the volunteers.
Praveen Kumar, Dean CoHS commented “It is very proud to see that our students who are future health professionals are participating in community activities very enthusiastically and are gearing up for oncoming challenges in their carrier”.
