Gulf Medical University’s College of Health Sciences, Department of Anaesthesia Technology, organized a successful World Anaesthesia Day celebration on 18th October 2024. The event commemorated the first administration of anesthesia by WTG Morton on October 16, 1846.

Event Highlights
The celebration, held at Lecture Hall 2, featured various activities, including:
- An anesthesia quiz competition for Semester 7 students
- Poster presentations by Semester 3 students
- Career guidance session on Anaesthesia Technology by GMU alumnus Mr. Sofyan Obaidat, In-charge, Mubadala Hospital
Awards and Recognition
The event also included the distribution of Honors Certificates to outstanding students in the Anaesthesia Technology department, presented by distinguished guests.

Keynote Addresses
The celebration featured keynote addresses by:
- Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean, College of Health Sciences, who emphasized the significance of anesthesia in the healthcare industry.
- Dr. Raji Sharma, HOD, Anaesthesia Department, who discussed the importance of World Anaesthesia Day and acknowledged the efforts of students and faculty during clinical postings at Thumbay University Hospital and all other clinical sites.
- Dr. Ellen Safadi, Program Director, Department of Anaesthesia Technology, who shared memories of the program’s evolution as the first Anaesthesia Technology course in the UAE.

Launch of “Beyond the Mask” Magazine
The event concluded with the unveiling of the pioneering Anaesthesia Technology Magazine, “Beyond the Mask,” which was appreciated by Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean, College of Health Sciences.
The celebration was a resounding success, with a large turnout of students and faculty members.
