Physiotherapy students along with students of medicine and dental collaborated in an inter professional community activity on 29th April 2024 and conducted pre-morbid functioning of ADL screening to the common people at NESTO supermarket, Ajman UAE.
Ms. Anjuka Murugaiah (2020PT10), Ms. Rawan Ali (2020PT34), Ms. Fiza Abid (2019PT25), Mr. Gamal (2020PT41) and Ms. Wajiha Anwar (2022MPT06) participated in screening activity under guidance of Dr. Renuka Mahadevan, Assistant Professor.

They conducted basic health screenings to identify premorbid musculoskeletal issues and lifestyle-related health problems among employees.
Activities conducted
- Health Screening: Screenings to assess the musculoskeletal health of participants. Basic health parameters were also monitored to understand the overall health status.

- Identification of Musculoskeletal Issues: Through subjective measures and physical examinations, significant musculoskeletal premorbid problems were identified among participants. These included issues related to posture, mobility, and pain.

- Patient Education and Home Programs: Participants with identified issues were provided with advice on home exercise programs to manage their conditions. They were educated in proper ergonomics, posture, and lifestyle modifications to improve their musculoskeletal health.
- Referral and Future Management: Participants requiring further physiotherapy management were identified and provided with vouchers for one free session at Thumbay Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Hospital.
The community event served as a valuable platform for early detection and management of musculoskeletal issues and lifestyle-related health problems. Through screenings, education, and referrals, participants were empowered to take proactive steps towards improving their musculoskeletal health and overall well-being.

Dr. Ramprasad, Chairperson, similar premorbid screening community outreach programs will be conducted periodically to promote preventive healthcare and raise awareness about the importance of musculoskeletal health maintenance and reiterated such collaboration with other healthcare professionals enhances the effectiveness of such initiatives. We extend our gratitude to all the medical professionals, particularly Prof. Shatha, community medicine, volunteers, and participants who contributed to the success of this community event. Students Reflections:
As a fourth-year physiotherapy student participating in the medical camp, I found the experience invaluable. It was inspiring to collaborate with professionals from various healthcare fields to provide holistic care to the community.
An ACP student of physiotherapy expressed ‘Assessing patients’ musculoskeletal issues and lifestyle diseases highlighted the importance of early intervention and patient education’.
A final year student expressed ‘Providing home exercise programs empowered patients to take control of their health beyond the camp. Identifying individuals in need of ongoing physiotherapy management underscored the significance of continuity of care.
Overall, the event reinforced my commitment to serving diverse populations and advocating for preventative healthcare measures’.
