Professionals on Stage – Career Advising and Orientation Summit 2025

Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, College of Health Sciences (CoHS), hosted the Career Advising and Orientation Summit 2025, titled “Career Opportunities in Medical Laboratory Science: Professionals on Stage – Summit 2025”, on Wednesday, 23 April 2025.

This inspiring event welcomed BSc, MSc MLS students, and alumni to explore the diverse career opportunities within the field of Medical Laboratory Sciences.

Designed to be both informative and interactive, the summit empowered attendees with actionable insights, career planning guidance, and motivational stories from accomplished professionals across multiple career sectors. Each speaker provided a deep dive into their sector, offering practical tips, essential skills, and insider perspectives:

  • Research Sector Speaker: Ms. Nagwa Ahmed Zeinelabdin, Research Assistant, Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine, GMU.
  • Quality Management Speaker: Ms. Mennatallah Ibrahim Mohammed Ibrahim (2022MSCMLS05), Clinic Quality Executive and MSc. MLS Student, CoHS, GMU.
  • IVF and Embryology Speaker: Ali Mohammed Ali Salim, Medical Laboratory Technologist, Bournhall Fertility Clinic – Mediclinic Hospital.
  • Medical Company Sector Speaker: Nirmal Kumar M, Managing Director, Leader Life Sciences, UAE.

The session was skilfully moderated and presented by Ms. Ansam Haider Osman Hussein (2021ML08), a Semester 8 BSc. MLS student, with an opening address delivered by Dr. Ahmed Luay, Chair of the Department of MLS.

Participants actively engaged with the speakers during an interactive panel discussion, gaining practical insights into the evolving job market, necessary qualifications, and strategic career planning across different fields.

Ahmed Raed Shaker Al-Sadi (2021ML20), a Semester 6 MLS undergraduate student, shared: “This summit gave me clarity on how I can plan my future career. I was especially inspired by the speaker from the IVF field—it opened my eyes to areas I hadn’t considered before.”

Reem Mohammed Saif AlshaqooshAlnuaimi (2024MSCMLS03), MLS alumna and master’s student, commented: “Hearing directly from professionals working in the field made everything feel more real and achievable. The quality management talk really motivated me to explore that direction further.”
