Physiotherapy Students from College of Health Sciences, GMU, Collaborate with Ministry of Community Development, Ajman for Community Awareness Program on Geriatrics and Children with Special Needs

Final-year BPT and MPT students from the College of Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University, collaborated with the Ministry of Community Development, Ajman to participate in the “Mind & Motion Day” celebration on February 11, 2025. The event, held at the Senior Emirates Happiness Center, Ajman, aimed to enhance the physical and mental well-being of elderly patients and students with special needs.

The event plan was prepared by Mr. Gamal Abdelhady Gamal El Din, a GMU alumnus and physiotherapy intern under the guidance of Dr. Satheeskumar and Ms. Neda Yosuf 2nd year MPT student cum clinical preceptor with active participation and volunteering from final year BPT students, namely:

The program included:

  • Assisting with light physiotherapy exercises for elderly patients
  • Engaging students in art, sensory play, and movement-based activities
  • Supporting patients through social interaction, music therapy, and games
  • Aiding in event coordination and logistics

This event provided Physiotherapy students with invaluable hands-on experience in community Physiotherapy and rehabilitation including elderly patients in stroke recovery and post-surgery rehabilitation and young patients with special needs e.g., Down syndrome through structured physiotherapy exercises, interactive activities, and social engagement. The health awareness session empowered participants to overcome their disabilities, and students gained valuable insights into community involvement.
