GMU Interdepartmental Indoor Games Fiesta 2025: A Day of Energy, Enthusiasm & Team Spirit!

In an electrifying celebration of collaboration and sportsmanship, the GMU Interdepartmental Indoor Games Fiesta 2025 took off with a powerful start at 9:00 AM on the 30th of May, inside the vibrant sports arena of Body & Soul Club, nestled in the heart of Thumbay Medicity. The event was brilliantly organized by the Human Resources Department of Gulf Medical University (GMU), designed to bring together departments, break the routine, and ignite the spirit of wellness and togetherness among staff.
Game On
The day featured a diverse lineup of indoor games: Jenga, Chess, Carroms, Billiards, Badminton (Men’s & Women’s Doubles), and Table Tennis (Men’s Singles & Women’s Doubles)—each game carefully structured with knockout rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals, complete with “Gold Card” wildcard entries that added a twist of suspense and excitement.
Game Highlights
Jenga – The Opening Clash
The first game to set the tone was Jenga, where Ms. Divya and Mr. Albin from the Admissions Department.
Chess – The Most Intellectually Fierce Battle
The chess tournament, the most strategically intense event of the day, saw a masterclass of tactical play. Dr. Abid Shaheer Karanghadan from the College of Medicine emerged victorious, earning the title of “Chess Master of GMU”, followed closely by Dr. Thushara from the College of Nursing.
Badminton – Smashing Spirits
Women’s Doubles:
First Place: Dr. Renuka and Dr. Meruna from the College of Health Sciences
Second Place: Ms. Jyoti and Ms. Divya from Admissions
Men’s Doubles:
First Place: Mr. Reghuraj and Mr. Mashrek from Admissions
Second Place: Mr. Abbas and Mr. Samseer from Administration
The final match drew roaring cheers from the audience.
Table Tennis – Spin to Win
Men’s Singles:
First Place: Dr. Walid from the College of Dentistry
Second Place: Mr. Pradeep, also from the College of Dentistry
Women’s Doubles:
First Place: Ms. Erum Shaikh from Admissions
Second Place: Ms. Esra, also from Admissions
Billiards – Precision at Play
First Place: Mr. Ian Kevin from Administration
Second Place: Mr. Zahid from the College of Medicine
The Grand Finale
At 4:00 PM, the much-awaited Closing Ceremony and Prize Distribution brought the arena alive with cheers, red jerseys, and high spirits. The ceremony was graced by Dr. Manda, Acting Chancellor of GMU, and Mr. Kumar, Chief Operating Officer—both proudly donning GMU Red Jerseys in solidarity with the players.
Deans and dignitaries including Dr. Shorbagy (Dean, College of Pharmacy), Dr. Selva (Dean, College of Nursing), and Dr. Moon (Dean, Thumbay College of Management & AI in Healthcare) honoured the winners, creating an inspiring atmosphere of leadership and unity.
Surprise Fun: Lucky Draw & MVP Showdown
Adding an extra spark to the event was the Lucky Draw, won by Ms. Asma from Admissions.
A thrilling tie-breaker game of Bowling determined the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the day. It was a dramatic showdown between Ms. Divya and Mr. Mashrek, both from Admissions, with Ms. Divya emerging as the MVP Shield Winner of GMU 2025.
And the Champion Is…
With a total of 70 points, Team Admissions proudly lifted the Ever-Rolling Trophy, symbolizing unmatched team energy, coordination, and competitive spirit. The trophy and MVP shield were jointly presented by Dr. Manda and Mr. Kumar.
A Moment to Remember
The day ended on a high note with a group photograph featuring all departments in GMU Red Jerseys, captured in a moment of joy, unity, and celebration of the vibrant GMU spirit. The entire program, from kick-off to conclusion, was hosted by Ms. Jisha from the HR Department. The Interdepartmental Indoor Games Fiesta 2025 was more than just a sports event. It was a celebration of teamwork, wellness, and the pulse of a connected GMU community. Here’s to more such spirited gatherings and an even grander fiesta in 2026.
