IPE Rotation with PharmD and Medical students

GMU MBBS year 4 student Mr. Shone Joe, performed his healthcare management rotation as an elective partly with the PharmD APPE (Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience) students covering pharmacy management and interprofessional care. The rotation was for 8 weeks starting from June 13. Out of the 8 weeks, 2 weeks were on pharmacy management. While in the rotation, Mr. Shone had the opportunity to round and engage in group discussions with PharmD students. The training included an observational overview of pharmacy operations. Places of posting included Thumbay University Hospital pharmacy and pharmacy warehouse of the Thumbay group. Mr. Shone was also able to share what he learned with PharmD year 3 students who were in their IPPE (Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience) as part of their task in collaborative care.

Dean of the College of Pharmacy Prof. Sherief Khalifa commented: “Our Academic Health System makes interprofessional education the “default” at GMU. All of our students and faculty learn and work together in a health professions education and practice environment. We feel very lucky to have such a unique setup where our students learn together for working together in the near future”.
