200 Gulf Medical University’s Alumni Reunite To Share their Success Stories

Continuing its commitment to strengthening ties with the university’s alumni, celebrating the hard work, determination and success, Gulf Medical University (GMU) hosted an Annual Alumni Summit (2022) in Shangri-la (Dubai) on November 28, 2022, from 7 pm onwards. The event, which aimed to provide sustainable and lifelong collaboration between the university and its alumni and foster engagement, honored the accomplishments of its students in an award ceremony- for their service to society and their innovative leadership. The attending alumni also shared their success stories, challenges they faced along the journey and about their highest achievements and provided the guidance to achieve similar successes in future.
The guest of honor Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice-president of healthcare division, Thumbay Group awarded 22 students for their distinguished contributions in categories like community service, leadership, and research.
The recipients of the excellence awards included: Dr. Sahar Elnajjar (Research), Dr. Amal Yousif Abdalla (Research), Dr. Azad Omar (Leadership), Ms. Shaikha Ahmed Saif Alsari Almheiri (leadership), Ms. Ameerah Khalid Abdulsayed Al Haideri (Community Service), Khaled Ahmed Ebrahim Ali Mohamed (Community Service), Ms. Mini Balakrishnan (Community Services), Ms. Nada Haj Ali (Research), Ms. Imane Mohamed Darraj (Leadership), Dr. Sami Mana Ahmad Bin Ahmad (Leadership), and Dr. Rashed Obaid Ali Al Suwaidi (Community Service).
The Deans of the six colleges under GMU as well as Over 200 alumni from various fields of health professions participated in the meet. Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor of Gulf Medical University said, “We are proud to see the professional achievements and growth of GMU’s students. The breadth of participation made the gathering remarkable and special; GMU’s alumni are the brand ambassadors of our core values and recognizing their contribution is crucial to the progress of the institute and the development of its current students.”
Professor Hamdy added, “Alumni meets help in developing a platform to showcase the institution’s growth, strengthening the relation between the university and its graduates, who have excelled in their careers, and to assure them of complete support and encouragement in their future endeavors.”
In addition, Akbar Moideen Thumbay stated, “Gulf Medical University has the most diverse alumni network in the private health professions education sector, with more than 3000 health professions graduates from over 78 nationalities including 11% of them being UAE nationals. With platforms like the Annual Alumni Meet, GMU’s mission is to create bridges of opportunity for our alumni base to connect, develop and build on meaningful initiatives and latest topics of interest around the world, within the spirit of amicability and fun which GMU is renowned for.”
“Gulf Medical University and Thumbay network of academic hospitals daycare, Labs, Pharmacies and clinics together train around 20 percent of the doctors and approximately 60 percent of the healthcare professionals in the country, creating a significant impact on the healthcare sector of the country and the region,” he concluded.
Since its inception, around 3000 students have graduated from GMU, advancing their career and securing successful positions including CEOs, COOs, Medical Directors and Heads of Departments in the healthcare and research across the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Europe, North America and Australia.
