Thumbay Institute for AI in Healthcare Organizes Workshop on Ethical Framework for AI Implementation in Healthcare

On the 2nd of November 2023, the Thumbay Institute for AI in Healthcare hosted a comprehensive seminar titled “Ethical Framework for the Implementation of AI in Healthcare”. This timely event featured a keynote address by the esteemed Dr. Attila Hertelendy from Harvard Medical School, USA. Dr Hertelendy’s lecture delved into the increasingly pertinent concerns regarding the ethical challenges posed by the integration of AI in healthcare. His discourse provided a detailed examination of various frameworks that could guide the ethical implementation of AI within the healthcare sector.

Prof. Hossam Hamdy, the Chancellor of Gulf Medical University, further enriched the seminar. Prof. Hamdy’s insightful remarks underscored the imperative need for ethical considerations in deploying AI applications in healthcare. He stressed the importance of incorporating courses on the ethical use of AI into healthcare educational programs, recognizing the potential impact of such education on future developments in the field. He highlighted the need for AI committees in universities to ensure the responsible use of AI.

Adding to the discourse, Dr. Vinaytosh Mishra, Director of the Thumbay Institute for AI in Healthcare, shared his perspectives on the need for skill-building in the application of AI within the healthcare domain. Understanding the critical intersection between AI and data privacy and security, he announced that the institute would be hosting a specialized 2-day workshop on the theme of “Cybersecurity for Healthcare Professionals” scheduled for the 4th and 5th of December 2023. This workshop is intended to empower healthcare professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the complex cybersecurity challenges in today’s technology-driven healthcare landscape.
