On March 26, 2018, the Public Health Policy and Licenses Sector of the Ministry of Health issued a letter to Gulf Medical University with the following message:
“Based on the meeting of the Higher Committee for the standardization of Licenses, it was decided that the graduates of the clinical pharmacy program (PharmD) will be evaluated in the beginning as pharmacists without the requirement of 6 months experience, then after practice and having two years of experience in a hospital as clinical pharmacists they can apply for the clinical pharmacist designation”.
The exemption for the 6 months training makes GMU PharmD graduates 6 months ahead of all Bachelor of Pharmacy graduates in the UAE. In addition, our graduates who spend 2 years working in a hospital as pharmacists performing clinical pharmacy roles will be eligible to sit for the “Clinical Pharmacist” license exam. This is yet another milestone for GMU PharmD graduates and a testimony for the quality of our PharmD program and its graduates.
