Gulf Medical University was shortlisted in the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards MENA 2023 for the categories of “Outstanding Support for Students” and “Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year”. The GMU projects submitted to THE for consideration were developed in-house by the University Quality Assurance and Institutional Effectiveness Unit in collaboration with the entire GMU community and the support of the university leadership.

The university’s pioneering e-portfolio support system enables students to curate and showcase their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and professional development, fostering a sense of ownership over their educational journey and future career prospects.
Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year: GMU’s QA&IE Portal
GMU’s forward-thinking approach to digital transformation has earned it a well-deserved nomination in the “Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year” category. The project titled “From Excel Sheets to Digital Innovation: How GMU’s QA&IE Portal Digitally Transformed the University Operations” highlights the university’s successful transition from traditional manual processes to an efficient and technologically advanced system.
The Quality Assurance and Institutional Effectiveness (QA&IE) Portal has streamlined various university operations, optimizing administrative processes, enhancing communication between departments, and facilitating data-driven decision-making. This digital innovation has not only improved the university’s overall efficiency but also strengthened its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality in education and research.
The Times Higher Education Awards MENA recognizes outstanding contributions and innovations made by academic institutions in the Middle East and North Africa.
