Gulf Medical University’s Quality Assurance & Institutional Effectiveness (QA&IE) team along with university leaders including Prof. Manda Venkatramana Acting Chancellor, Academics and Prof. Muhammad Al-Shorbagy, Dean, College of Pharmacy, participated in the QS Capacity-Building and Performance Methodology Workshop, held on 6th May 2025 at the University of Dubai, Academic City Campus. The event was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) in collaboration with Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), marking the launch of the first phase of a national initiative to enhance the global competitiveness of UAE universities.

The workshop brought together senior leaders, strategic planning teams, academic heads, and institutional effectiveness personnel from higher education institutions (HEIs) across the UAE, including GMU, for a comprehensive session focused on building institutional capacity in line with international ranking standards.

As part of the capacity-building phase, participants were briefed to QS’s global ranking methodologies-including the World University Rankings (WUR), Regional Rankings, and Sustainability Rankings, and were guided through best practices for data collection, submission protocols, and the use of performance indicators.

The workshop also outlined the roadmap for future phases of the project, which include data validation, performance benchmarking, and the creation of tailored institutional reports. These initiatives aim to inform a national roadmap that supports evidence-based policymaking and promotes sustainable growth across the UAE’s higher education sector.

This participation aligns with GMU’s commitment to continuous improvement and supports the UAE’s National Strategy for Higher Education 2030 by supporting data-driven quality improvement in higher education.
