Dr. Yousef Mohamed Abdulrazzaq AlBastaki completed his basic education in medicine and achieved his MD from the University of Shiraz in 1979. He then pursued specialization in pediatrics and neonatology in 1980-1985 at St George’s Hospital London and obtained a Ph.D. from the University of London, and since then has served as Consultant of Pediatrics and Neonatology for over 25 years in Al Ain and Tawam Hospitals, UAE. Parallel to advancing his medical career, Dr. Yousef was appointed as a Teaching Assistant in 1980 at the UAE University and then gradually progressed to Emeritus Professor in 2011, a position he continues to hold in the Department of Pediatrics at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the UAE University. In December 2016, Dr. Yousef was appointed as the Director of the Department of Medical Education in Dubai Health Authority
Dr. Yousef is also chair and member of varied committees at the federal level related to healthcare in the UAE, such as the Federal Anti-Doping Committee, etc. His expertise in teaching also serves an added advantage in his role as advisor in different advisory boards of universities in the UAE. He also holds memberships of funding agencies and journal editorial boards and reviews submitted articles for various international journals. Dr. Yousef has also authored more than 90 articles published in peer-reviewed journals. He is also the proud recipient of a number of awards and honors earned in appreciation of his contributions in the field of medicine and education, chief among them is the Emirates Award in Science and the latest being the lifetime achievement award in 2009 by the Abu Dhabi Health Authority.
Currently, Dr. Yousef continues to be actively involved in education in his role as the Director of Medical Education at DHA.
