Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay

Akbar Moideen Thumbay is the Vice President of Healthcare Division at Thumbay Group with responsibility of managing the division which includes Thumbay Hospitals & Day Cares, Thumbay Clinics, Thumbay Pharmacy, Thumbay Labs and Thumbay Medical Tourism. The Healthcare Division deals with the operations of all its units across Ajman, Fujairah, Sharjah and Dubai. Under the banner of the retail division, he handles the brands of Zo & Mo Opticals, Thumbay Pharmacy and Flower Shoppe, located across the UAE.

Akbar completed his graduation in Mechanical Engineering from American University of Sharjah (AUS). Later his passion in healthcare took him to the renowned SDA Bocconi School of Management, Milan, Italy where he continued his postgraduate studies in Hospital Management. Akbar was inducted to the 2017 Alumni Wall of Fame of the American University of Sharjah (AUS), in recognition of his merit and professional accomplishments. He was also honored with the prestigious ‘Champion of Change’ Award at 7th Annual MENA HR Excellence Awards 2015 in recognition of his leadership, strategic thinking and key management decisions that benefited the organization. He was also featured in the twentyfive young Business Leaders in UAE, profiled in a coffee table book GEN NEXT INDIANS. He was also instrumental in Thumbay Hospitals achieving Dubai Quality and Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Awards. He also received the award for the Thumbay Hospital being featured as the Best Medical Tourism Hospital in the Middle East by the New Economy in 2013 by a leading newspaper in the UK.

Thumbay Hospital, over the years has become one of the largest healthcare providers in the private healthcare sector offering quality and affordable care to all sections of society in the U.A.E. Today, the healthcare division operates over 7 hospitals, 10 clinics, 50 pharmacies, 10 labs and a medical tourism company, all certified with highest quality standards. Under his leadership, all Thumbay Hospitals in the UAE have achieved JCI Accreditation, Dubai Quality Appreciation Award as well as Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Awards. He was instrumental in Thumbay Labs having achieved CAP accreditation.

His biggest aim in life is to establish Thumbay hospitals as the largest academic hospital network in the Middle East. The group is now focusing on plans to start more Thumbay Healthcare facilities across the UAE, while venturing into other GCC countries & India. A renowned speaker and panelist, Akbar has interacted in numerous healthcare conferences and business seminars.
