International Interprofessional EDUCATION (IPE) Experience at GMU

On March 04, 2020, a group of GMU and international students conducted an IPE case presentation activity that they were following up for a week. This IPE case presentation was in addition to the monthly IPE case presentations. Students interacted with the patients and all care providers in a complicated case of hypertensive emergency and intracranial hemorrhage. The student group includes;

  • Anahita Dumasia, BPT Candidate, Gulf Medical University
  • Mohamed Eissa, MD Candidate, Dalhousie University
  • Ornesha Watson, PharmD Candidate, University of Saint Joseph School of Pharmacy and Physician Assistant Studies
  • Will Wilson, PharmD Candidate, University of Saint Joseph School of Pharmacy and Physician Assistant Studies

Mohamed Eissa completed a 3-week long IPE rotation at GMU, including IPE ward rounds, case discussions, and Journal Club. Ornesha and Will completed a 5-week long Acute Care Rotation; in their training, IPE was a significant component.

Dr. Dixon Thomas, Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Chair of GMU IPE committee commented, at GMU we are proud that we are providing IPE training to our own students in addition to students from USA and Canada. Our GMU Academic Health Center allows us to provide a leading role in IPE and makes us a hub for other colleges and universities around the world.
