GMU Student group present on their IPE experience at Al-Ain University Faculty Development Workshop in Abu Dhabi

On February 23, 2020, GMU students Alyssa Cameron (4 th year Medicine) and Runyararo Makona (5 th year Pharmacy) presented an IPE Experience at Gulf Medical University which they worked on with Jaideep Kaur (4 th year Nursing). The students worked on a case at Thumbay Hospital for one week under the facilitation of treating clinical pharmacist, nurse, and surgeon and their academic counterparts. Alyssa and Runyararo presented their experience at the 5th Regional Pharmacy Faculty Development Workshop on Best Practices for Planning and Evaluation of Interprofessional Education at Al Ain University, Abu Dhabi Campus organized by Ministry of Education/CAA, ACPE, and AACP.

The students took a day by day approach to the IPE presentation. The presentation was highly interactive with the students giving pictorial and verbal evidence of some of their encounters during their IPE activity. These encounters included issues with role clarity, patient-centeredness, teamwork, and communication. The audience of Pharmacy Faculty form the whole region completed an evaluation rubric assessing the main domains of IPE.

Vice Chancellor for Quality and Global Engagement and Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Prof. Sherief Khalifa commented: GMU, being a Medical University and an Academic Health System, is well positioned to establish a center of excellence for Interprofessional education.
