Understanding Cancer from a Metabolic Viewpoint: Invited Talk by Dr. Iqbal at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences

Talk By Dr. Iqbal at Mohammed Bin Rashid

Dr. Iqbal delivered an invited talk at MBRU as part of their Research Discussion Series on 14th April 2026; The presentation was titled “Understanding Cancer from a Metabolic Viewpoint.” The presentation covered the fundamental principles of cellular metabolism and their relevance to cancer biology and highlighted how his research is uncovering key metabolic pathways and their altered regulation during tumorigenesis. It provided systems-level insights, demonstrating how integrative analyses reveal significant metabolic heterogeneity in breast tumors, including the role of distinct master regulators in driving subtype-specific metabolic programs. Particular emphasis was placed on the unique metabolic features of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), underscoring its biological complexity and therapeutic challenges. The talk also revealed the metabolic behavior of cancer at single cell resolution. Overall, the session offered a cohesive, multi-scale perspective on cancer metabolism;from pathways to systems to single cells.

The visit also served as a platform to strengthen collaborative ties between TRIPM and the faculty at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences. The engagement underscored a shared commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, student training opportunities, and future grant initiatives aimed at accelerating impactful discoveries in cancer biology.
