The Aoun Award for Community Service is an initiative by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) designed to inculcate a culture of volunteerism. The award recognizes outstanding contributions in community service by educational institutions. Participants are evaluated based on the quality of their collaborative efforts, creativity, and the impact of their projects on the community. This award not only acknowledges the efforts of these institutions but also fosters a sense of responsibility and altruism among students, aligning with the UAE’s values of unity, cooperation, and generosity.
More over his Excellency Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE has declared 2025 as the Year of Community under the theme “Hand in Hand.” This initiative aims to strengthen social bonds, preserve cultural heritage, and promote volunteerism to foster a united and empowered society. It encourages inclusive participation in community service and innovation, supporting national priorities. By participating, students gain valuable experience in humanitarian work, contributing to the nation’s growth and development.
Red Crescent collaborates with Thumbay Institute of Population Health, Gulf Medical University, Ajman for Aoun Event. A preliminary meeting was held at GMU campus between Red Crescent staff and representatives from the Thumbay Institute of Population Health to discuss collaboration for the upcoming Aoun event.
A key meeting was held on January 29, 2025, bringing together representatives from the Red Crescent, Gulf Medical University, and TIPH. The agenda focused on organizing and streamlining activities for the Aoun competition, with discussions on volunteer registration, documentation processes, and conducting sustainable projects in the community for the needy population. We together explored ways to maximize impact through structured programs, including research, community awareness campaigns, and medical camps.
Over 160 volunteers are expected to participate in the event, which will feature awareness camps, screening for risk factors, labor camp visits, and research initiatives. The collaboration also aims to strengthen ties with local organizations, Labor camps, and municipal authorities, ensuring a wider reach and effective implementation. The upcoming activities will be documented through various media, including video publications and newsletters, ensuring visibility and awareness of the initiative.
The partnership between the Red Crescent and Gulf Medical University under the Thumbay Institution of Population Health highlights the growing commitment of young medical professionals towards humanitarian efforts. By engaging students in structured community service initiatives, this collaboration not only provides hands-on experience in public health and social outreach but also fosters a strong sense of responsibility among future healthcare providers.
