Gulf Medical University (GMU) has successfully concluded its first CCAT Aeromedical Transport – Foundation Level Course, held from December 4 to 9, 2025 at the GMU campus in Ajman. This milestone marks a major step toward realizing the President’s vision for establishing the Thumbay Institute of Aviation Medicine, positioning GMU as a growing hub for aeromedical and retrieval medicine education in the region.
Delivered in collaboration with CCAT Aeromedical Training (UK), the course was led by Prof. Dr. Terry Martin, an internationally recognized expert in aviation and transport medicine. His leadership, combined with GMU’s advanced simulation environment, brought global standards of aeromedical training to the UAE.
The intensive six-day program—designed for doctors, nurses, paramedics, and allied health professionals—covered core aspects of aeromedical transport, including aviation physiology, flight-related clinical risk, patient management during transport, equipment considerations, and interprofessional teamwork. Training took place at the Thumbay Institute of Clinical Simulation (TICS), featuring high-fidelity simulation scenarios and hands-on practical sessions.
The course attracted participants from South Asia, the Middle East, and North America, reflecting the growing international demand for structured aeromedical education. Graduates received a jointly recognized Certificate of Completion from CCAT UK and GMU.
Building on this success, GMU plans to expand its offerings with advanced CCAT modules, recurrent aeromedical training, and specialized diploma and certificate programs in aviation and transport medicine, further strengthening its leadership in critical care transport and aviation medicine education.
