Dr. Janita Pinto MSc, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Sciences at Gulf Medical University, UAE from 2015 onwards. She is also the Phase II Director in the MBBS program responsible for coordinating the scheduling, planning, and assessment of the II and III MBBS courses.
Dr. Janita completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Basic Sciences at St. Agnes College, India, and then moved to Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University, India to obtain her post-graduate degree in Medical Microbiology. She started her career as a Microbiologist at Bangalore Children’s Hospital followed by entering into academics in 1999 at Mamata Medical College, India. She continued her career at St. Agnes College teaching Microbiology for eight years. She then pursued her research studies at Yenepoya Research Centre on the ‘Study of effect of Malathion on the infection: Therapeutic effect of synthetic antioxidants’ and was then awarded a Ph.D. in 2013. She has worked as an Assistant Professor at Yenepoya Medical College, India, providing theoretical and practical skills in Immunology and Microbiology to the students of Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, and Nursing programs.
Dr. Janita is also well versed in managing clinical laboratories and has been instrumental in setting up laboratories. She has a special interest in understanding the role of immunological and biochemical markers, especially during infectious diseases. Her recent publications are on her work conducted on neonatal sepsis. She is a member of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases as well as the American Society for Microbiology.
