Professor and Head of Biomedical Sciences
Professor Gomathi Kadayam Guruswami has completed her BSc. (Hons) in Human Biology in 1983, MSc (Biochemistry) in 1985, and Ph.D. in Biochemistry (1993) from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India. She was a Senior Demonstrator at AIIMS and worked as Junior Consultant (Biochemistry) at the Batra Hospital and Research Centre in New Delhi before coming to UAE. She was certified as a Specialist (Clinical Chemistry) of the Ministry of Health, UAE in 1998. She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Health Professions Education (2008).
Prof. Gomathi has been with the College of Medicine, Gulf Medical University since its inception in November 1998. She is currently the Associate Dean Academics as well as the Head, Department of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Medicine.
Prof. Gomathi has over 25 years of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate health professions students. As the Program Director, she led her team to start the first Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences program in UAE in 2014. The program is internationally accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science, UK. An active researcher with publications in international peer-reviewed journals, her current research interests are in fields of Diabetes, Obesity and Cardiovascular disease, and Health professions’ education.
