Dr. Gopinath Madeswaran joined as an Assistant Professor of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the College of Health Sciences since November 2025. He is an experienced educator, clinician, and researcher with over ten years of involvement in optometric education and vision science. He earned his PhD and Master’s degree in Optometry from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), India, and holds a prestigious Fellowship Diploma in British Dispensing Optics (FBDO) from the Association of British Dispensing Opticians, UK.
His expertise includes optics, low vision rehabilitation, visual function assessment, and evidence-based optometric practice. Dr Gopinath has published numerous papers in high-impact, peer-reviewed, and indexed national & international journals, and has participated in nationally funded research projects supported by SERB and BIRAC in India.
A dedicated academician, he is known for his student-centred teaching style and excellence in mentoring. He has guided many undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students in research design, data analysis, and scientific writing. His lectures and workshops on AI in research, qualitative and quantitative methods, and evidence-based practice have received widespread appreciation at academic and professional events. In recognition of his achievements, Dr Gopinath received the Best Optometry Faculty Award (2023) from the Optometry Council of India and Bausch & Lomb, as well as the Distinguished Alumni Award (2024) during the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Manipal College of Health Professions, MAHE. Driven by innovation, collaboration, and compassion, Dr Gopinath continues to make significant contributions to the advancement of vision science, the enhancement of clinical education, and the cultivation of a research-led culture in optometry.
