GMU College of Pharmacy Participates in World No Tobacco Day 2026 Awareness Campaign

World No Tobacco Day Awareness Campaign

On May 31, 2026, students and faculty from the Gulf Medical University (GMU) College of Pharmacy actively participated in the World No Tobacco Day 2026 awareness campaign held at the Patient Counselling Centre of Thumbay Pharmacy, located within Thumbay University Hospital. Organized by MPC Healthcare, the event brought together healthcare professionals, pharmacy trainees, and community members to promote tobacco cessation and raise awareness about the health risks associated with tobacco use.

The campaign featured two key engagement sections. The first focused on patient counselling, where GMU PharmD students and faculty provided personalized guidance on smoking cessation strategies, behavioural support, and the health benefits of quitting tobacco. The second section showcased smoking cessation support products, allowing participants to learn about nicotine replacement therapies and other evidence‑based tools that aid individuals in their quit journey.

Throughout the day, a significant number of patients and their bystanders visited the counselling centre, making full use of the opportunity to receive expert advice and explore cessation options. The strong turnout reflected the community’s growing interest in tobacco‑free living and highlighted the value of pharmacist‑led public health initiatives.

By contributing to this national health awareness effort, GMU College of Pharmacy reinforced its commitment to community engagement and the role of pharmacists as frontline advocates for public health. The participation of students and faculty not only supported the goals of World No Tobacco Day but also strengthened experiential learning in preventive care and patient education.
