UPSF GMU Hosts First Event of the 25/26 Mandate: Use Medications Safely: One Wrong Dose Can Cause Harm

The UAE Pharmacy Students Federation (UPSF) – GMU Chapter successfully launched its first event of the new mandate 25/26 on 22nd September 2025, titled “Use Medications Safely: One Wrong Dose Can Cause Harm.”

The session addressed one of the most pressing global health concerns, the misuse of medications and injectable substances, often influenced by media and societal trends. Through this initiative, UPSF-GMU emphasized the importance of responsible medication practices, patient awareness, and global collaboration to minimize the risks associated with improper use.

Key highlights of the event included practical medication safety tips, such as the importance of never sharing prescription drugs, carefully reading medication labels and patient information leaflets, avoiding self-adjustment of dosages, and being cautious with high-risk medicines such as antibiotics, sedatives, and painkillers. Participants were also reminded of the dangers of mixing medications with herbal products or alcohol without medical guidance, as well as the risks of self-diagnosis in cases of serious symptoms.

The campaign sought to encourage participants to act as future pharmacists and health advocates, spreading awareness on how even small errors in medication use can lead to significant harm.

This inaugural event not only underscored UPSF-GMU’s commitment to public health education and patient safety but also set the tone for a mandate focused on impactful initiatives.
