The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences Contributes to “GEMS-GMU Future Scientist of UAE Program 2022“: Hands-On Laboratory Sessions on Drug Discovery And Development Research

On July 2, 2022, College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University continued to trigger the minds of the young generation by conducting a research rotation “Future Scientists of the UAE” for the students of GEMS (Global Education Management Systems) in the Medicinal and Phytochemistry laboratories. The sessions were conducted by Dr. Samiullah Shabbir Ahmad and Dr. Reham Khaled who are Teaching Assistants undertaking a master’s degree in Drug Discovery and Development at the College of pharmacy. The rotation began with an introductory session explaining the scope of pharmaceutical sciences research in drug discovery. This was followed by hands-on laboratory sessions, where students synthesized medicinal agents from commercially available chemicals.

Dr. Samiullah commented: “it was a great pleasure to host this group of young talented passionate students. The depth of discussions and skills the students showed in the lab was amazing. Indeed, Future UAE Scientists!“
